There's no more denying the launch of a new iPhone next month with the barrage of clues that has surfaced on the web.
The latest being AT&T's staff memo restricting employees from taking off from June 15-July 12 "to ensure adequate store staffing and to give everyone an equal opportunity to benefit from an exciting product launch." Previously, Apple updated their homepage featuring a reminder to sign up for the upcoming WWDC, with an iPhone in the background. Although the new iPhone 2.0 software will be a hot topic, we all know an iPhone update is imminent.
A number of sources involved in the product have also hinted, if not outright leaked, that a 3G iPhone is in the works. Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer responsible for producing the phones have said that they expect to build 24-25 million units of the new model. Last month, All Things D co-editor Walt Mossberg let slip that the iPhone "will be 3G in 60 days." He later retracted his statement, but it's probably because Apple made him do so.
The rumor mill is also in full force with fake photos surfacing all over the place. Among the speculated specs are:
- The new phone will come in Black, Silver, and Red.
- It will have 3G support.
- It will have a GPS module.
- It will have a 3.5mm audio out jack.
- It will have a better camera, probably 3 megapixels).
- It will be approximately 2.5mm thinner than the current model.
- It will be cheaper as AT&T slashes $200 off the retail price in exchange for a two year contract.
It is a high possibility that there won't be a radical change in the looks department save for the addition of a camera on the front. And the position of some ports and buttons.
A number of countries will be getting their iPhones at last later this year. Among them Canada (via Rogers); Australia, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa, the Czech Republic, and Turkey (via Vodafone).
