Your networks, the people you interact with are important to your business. There are networks like social networks, business networks, religious networks. The people we meet and how well we establish these relationships plays a vital role as to how well, you'll be able to influence the people around you.
Some might say, that it's 'manipulative' or 'having ulterior motives' but then these same influences are many times used to solicitate help for donations, getting people to work together for a good cause, establish relationships that turn into great marriages.
The people around you and how well you influence them, determines your skill in effecting change not only in their lives, but in your own and your ability to affect your neighbourhood, workplace, community, industry, country and the world.
