Google is still developing their knol project. It's basically a wkipedia with peer reviews and other community based functions. People can start wikis... I mean knols and write about a specific subject. Other readers will comment on how well it's written, if it's true or not, argree, disagree, rate the content, etc.
There's an option to place ads, in which google will provide 'substantial' revenue sharing to knol authors. Hmmm, what if I put my own affiliate links in it? Is that allowed, since many affiliate marketers are more effective placing their own affiliate ads.
Well, with this, like a squidoo or wiki, it'll may help search efforts to be more refined with relevant links group around the search keywords. There's plenty of irrelevant sites popping up in google searches and can be the first place to refer/research a subject.
Google says they won't edit nothing. Even porno comments, vulgar, racially insensitive or religious outcry stuff? That will be interesting.
There's opportunities for branding and setting up credible profiles. Anyone who wants to have increased credibility and become some kind of authority in a subject can try hard to make their knols popular and with lots of positive feedback. Competition will be rampant and listing high on ratings will be a form of knol SEO.
Things will get more exciting when it's launched.
