Stop Whining About MacBook Air Already
Tech News
By: Mike Lucas on 23 March 2008
Yes, it doesn't have a CD drive. Yes, it only has ONE USB port. Yes, it costs as much as a Macbook Pro.

Admitedly, the Macbook Air isn't for everyone. But curiously, most people can't figure out a use for it other than an expensive 'second laptop' for the rich techie.

So I'll do you a favor and tell you who it's for - Businessmen/ High flying execs/ Freelancers.

It's for work, it's for business. Not graphic design, gaming, or video editing.

This machine was made FOR Keynote. The only drawback being the lack of an Apple remote and an infrared port. But it's nothing a third party wifi/bluetooth-based remote won't solve.

Conservatively, it's got about 4 hours battery life, which isn't too shabby. Take into account the slight recharges when its off and it translates into quite a number of presentations.

That said, a base 80GB HHD model would suffice. Getting the more expensive model with SSD seems a bit of a waste, considering you could get a top of the line Macbook Pro for the same price. Though it's worth noting that the SSD model loads faster.

And weight aside, don't forget the Macbook Pro is merely an inch thick, not that far from the Macbook Air's 0.76 inch girth at its thickest end. That's a 0.24 inch difference.

To wrap, the Air is made for people requiring average performance but high mobility.

It's the smallest office suite you can get in a 'full' package.

It's definitely a 'cool' product. To best describe it's coolness, I read in pvponline comic a strip which said something about 'It fits into an envelope'.
