La Salle defended its way to another girls basketball state title on Sunday.

The Rams, employing a shutdown defense that gave up only 25 points in the first 29 minutes of the 32-minute contest, defended their title and captured their 11th state crown in 16 years with a 41-33 victory over Barrington in the state title game at the Ryan Center.

"Our backbone has been our defense all year," said Sean Reddy, who has coached the Rams to all 11 state crowns in the 16-year span. "These teams play great defense. I thought ours might have been a little better today."

air max 97 cheap, which defeated the Rams by three points in the Division I title game two weeks ago, was playing without the services of their top scorer Glory Ellison, who was fulfilling a Sunday religious commitment.

But despite not having Ellison, who had averaged 14 points a game, the Eagles battled the Rams on virtually even terms for much of the game.

The difference in scoring was an eight-point La Salle run over a little more than minute late in the first half, sparked by a pair of 3-point shots from the Rams' Christina Kiser.

That run allowed La Salle to break away from a 17-17 deadlock with four minutes to play for a 25-17 lead with 2:50 remaining in the half. At halftime the Rams led, 27-20.

The best Barrington could do was cut a point off that deficit in the second halfhttp://www.canvet.co.uk/.

Kiser ended the 17-17 deadlock with her first 3-pointer with four minutes to play. A Bryanna Rawnsley field goal 30 seconds later gave the Rams a five-point advantage and Kiser hit again from 3-point land 40 seconds later.

"Christina is rock solid. If she's open, it's going in," said Reddy.

Barrington had stayed on even terms with the Rams through the first 12 minutes of the game with the lead changing hands several times. The Eagles were able to negate La Salle's backcourt pressure defense with a good transition offense, sparked by the rebounding Grace Coutu and Liddy Hutchings.

But then Kiser sparked the eight-point run and the Rams defense made sure it never gave up the advantage.

The Rams gave up only five points in the first 10 minutes of the second half and that enabled La Salle to build a 13-point lead, 38-25, with 5:30 to play in the game.

One of the keys to the Rams triumph was the play of senior Allyson Desrosiers, who missed the first half of the season while rehabbing an injury she suffered playing lacrosse last spring.

"Allie Desrosiers, our senior, was phenomenal," said Reddy. "She came back from the injury. ... She is our best defensive player on the floor. She came up with every big rebound we needed."

"I wanted to get back very badly," said Desrosiers. "The offense was a little tough, but the defense stuck."a href="http://www.canvet.co.uk/">cheap nike air max men.

Neither team had a player score in double figures, but La Salle received offensive contributions from eight players. Desrosiers, Kiser and Rawnsley shared scoring honors for the Rams with eight points each.

Coutu led Barrington with nine points. Coutu and Hutchings combined for 19 rebounds with nine and 10, respectively. That rebounding enabled the Eagles to stay on even terms with the Rams for all but a few stretches, the eight-point run in the first half and a five-minute span in the middle of the second half when the La Salle defense held the Eagles scoreless.

"I'm disappointed in the loss because I wanted this for them," said Barrington coach Steve Lenz. "But they played for 32 minutes and I couldn't be prouder of them."

Desrosiers was one of only two seniors on the La Salle roster.

"We probably are a little behind offensively right now because we are so young. But our defense has been solid<http://www.canvet.co.uk/" said Reddy.

"The thing that has made me the most proud in my 23 years of coaching is that this team has improved every single day. In practice, even in this game, you could see it. They were getting better as the game progressed. They challenged each other every day in practice."

The title defense marked the first time any team has won back-to-back state crowns since La Salle has won three straight from 2011-13.
